Annexation Ordinance for City property (former Harmon property) 


ISSUE:

The Governing Body is asked to consider and approve an ordinance to annex real property located on Old Post Road.

 

  1.  Ordinance No. __________ -2023, an ordinance annexing land to the City of Garden City, Kansas that adjoins and is owned by the City of Garden City, Kansas. 
BACKGROUND:

On February 21, 2023, the Governing Body authorized the purchase of +/- 143.17 acres of real property that is located on Old Post Road. The property is adjacent to the Garden City Industrial Park on Mansfield Road and is contiguous to the current city limit boundary. On July 18, 2023, the Governing Body directed staff to create an ordinance to consider annexing this City-owned property into the City of Garden City. Staff has prepared that annexation ordinance. 

ALTERNATIVES:
  1. The Governing Body may approve the ordinance to annex +/-143.17 acres of real property into the City boundaries. 
  2. The Governing Body may not to approve the ordinance.
RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends the Governing Body approve the ordinance to annex 143 acres of real property into the City boundaries.

FISCAL NOTE:

There is no financial impact to the City by annexing this property into the City of Garden City.
